Varicella Vaccine

Indications: 
Varicella vaccine is a live attenuated virus vaccine for those that have not had chickenpox.  

When to administer?

To be administered one time if given before age 12, and twice if given after 13 years of age.  4-8 weeks between dose one and dose two. 

5 month elay administration of varicella vaccine if patient has received recent immunoglobulin vaccination. 

Administration of immunoglobulin should be delayed for at least 3 weeks after administration of vaccine, unliess benefits outweigh the risks. 

Contraindications:

Not to be given to women that are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant. Also, should not be given to patients that are immunocompromised.
