Indications:
Td has usually been the
booster of choice.
New TDaP or Tetanus Diptheria acellular Pertussis should be considered every
ten years to not only boost the tetanus coverage, but
that of pertussis
When to give
booster:
If over 5 years since
last booster and you are traveling out of the country
consider a Td booster.
If over 10 years since
last pertussis, consider booster with TDaP
Contraindications:
History
of server reactions to any previous DTP or TDaP.
- Fever
> 40.5 C within 48 hours of vaccine
- Seizure
within 72 hours of vaccine
- Low blood pressure or
comatose episode within 48 hours
- Inconsolable Crying >3
hours within 48 hours
- Guillain-Barre
Syndrome within 6 weeks of vaccine
TDaP may be given during
pregnancy. Be sure to check for possible update to this recommendation
with your doctor.
